Code of Conduct for Players and Guests of Copford CC
Copford Cricket Club is fully committed to safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of all its members.
Copford Cricket Club believes that it is important that members, coaches, administrators and parents/carers or guardians associated with the club should, at all times, show respect and understanding for the safety and welfare of others.
Therefore, members are encouraged to be open at all times and to share any concerns or complaints that they may have about any aspect of the club with either the Club Chairman or Welfare Officer.
- All Members and Guests of Copford CC will:
Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every person within the context of Cricket
Treat everyone equally and not discriminate on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief
Not condone, or allow to go unchallenged, any form of discrimination if witnessed
Display high standards of behaviour
Promote the positive aspects of Cricket e.g. fair play
Encourage all participants to learn the Laws and rules and play within them, respecting the decisions of match officials
Actively discourage unfair play, rule violations and arguing with match officials
Recognise good performance not just match results
Place the well-being and safety of Young People above the development of performance
Ensure that activities are appropriate for the age, maturity, experience and ability of the individual
Respect Young People’s opinions when making decisions about their participation in Cricket
Not smoke, drink or use banned substances whilst actively working with Young People in the Club
Not provide Young People with alcohol when they are under the care of the Club
Follow ECB guidelines set out in the “Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children’ and any other relevant guidelines issued
Report any concerns in relation to a Young Person, following reporting procedures laid down by the ECB
In addition to the above, all Club Officers and Appointed Volunteers will:
Hold relevant qualifications and be covered by appropriate insurance
Always work in an open environment (i.e. avoid private or unobserved situations and encourage an open environment)
Inform Players and Parents of the requirements of Cricket
Know and understand the ECB’s ‘Safe Hands – Cricket’s Policy for Safeguarding Children’
No player under the age of 18 will be permitted to bat in a game or training session when a hard ball is being used unless they are wearing a helmet.
All junior wicket keepers will be required to wear a helmet when standing up to the wicket in a hardball match. In addition all junior keepers up to the age of 12 will be required to wear a helmet at all times when keeping in hard ball cricket. Older juniors may be permitted to dispense with wearing a helmet, when standing back, at the discretion of the coaches or team managers.
Junior players must not use the nets unsupervised unless they have received permission to do so by one of the club officials.
All junior teams must comply to the ECB directives on fast bowling and fielding or any other directive introduced by the ECB.
All adult teams must comply to the ECB directives on fast bowling, fielding or any other directive introduced by the ECB when selecting junior club members to play in their team.
Any behaviour or actions that are deemed contrary to the spirit of cricket and/or detrimental to the Club will be dealt with accordingly.
Any player found to be offending against the club code of conduct will be required to attend a disciplinary hearing that will be made up of at least three members of the Executive Committee of the Club that will usually include the Chairman or Vice-Chairman of the club. The decision of any such hearing will be binding upon all players.
It is the intention of the club to review their policy on Code of Conduct from time to time and make any amendments that are deemed necessary. Any such amendments will be conveyed to the players at the earliest opportunity. A copy of the Players Code of Conduct will be displayed on the club notice board along with copies of all the relevant ECB directives.Code of Conduct/Set of Rules for Young People

As a Junior Member of Copford Cricket Club you are expected to abide by the following junior code of conduct:
All members must play within the rules and respect officials and their decisions.
All members must respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of gender, ability, cultural background or religion.
Members should keep to agreed timings for training and competitions or inform their coach or team manager if they are going to be late.
Members must wear suitable kit for training and match sessions, as agreed with the coach/team manager.
Members must pay any subscriptions or fees for events promptly.
Junior members are not allowed to smoke on club premises or whilst representing the club at competitions.
Junior members are not allowed to consume alcohol or drugs of any kind on the club premises or whilst representing the club.
Getting Involved:
The successful running of Copford CC is down to parents and club members. In view of this, as many volunteers as possible are needed.
If you feel you could offer to put the flags out for the boundary, make and serve refreshments, serve at the bar, umpire a match, make a few phone calls, fill a few envelopes, help with transport or score a match please let us know. If you have any hidden skills that could be put to good use around the club house or grounds please also let us know.We would also ask that you:
Discuss the Code of Conduct for Young People with your son/daughter
Encourage your child to learn the rules and play within them.
Discourage unfair play and arguing with officials.
Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
Set a good example by recognising fair play and applauding all good performances.
Publicly accept officials' judgements.
Support your child's involvement and help them to enjoy their sport.
Use correct and proper language at all times.
